Heala vs WHOOP
Let us be straight about this one: WHOOP is a strap with sensors on it and Heala is an app. We do not replace the hardware, and any page telling you otherwise is selling something.
- Continuous heart rate
- Overnight HRV
- Respiratory rate
- Skin temperature
- Sleep staging
- What to train today
- What to eat against it
- Body composition over time
- And reads the strap
What WHOOP does that no app can
It measures. Continuous heart rate, heart-rate variability overnight, respiratory rate, skin temperature, sleep staging from actual sensor data — a phone in your pocket cannot produce any of that.
If your question is "how recovered am I, physiologically", dedicated hardware is a better answer than any software estimate, and that includes ours.
What the strap does not do
It does not know what you ate. Nutrition is the single largest lever on body composition and it is not something a wrist sensor can see.
It does not write your training. It reports strain and recovery; deciding what Thursday should look like is left to you.
And it is a subscription with hardware attached — the membership continues whether or not you wear it.
The actual relationship
Heala reads WHOOP. Anything the strap writes to Apple Health or Health Connect — sleep, heart rate, workouts — arrives in Heala and sharpens its recovery score, and the app then does the parts the strap cannot: food, programme, body composition, the plan.
If you own a WHOOP, keep it. If you are deciding whether to buy one in order to get recovery data, know that Heala produces a usable recovery signal from your phone alone, and a wearable makes it better rather than possible.
| Heala | WHOOP | |
|---|---|---|
| Works with no extra hardware | Yes | No |
| Continuous HR, HRV, temperature | No | Yes |
| Sleep and recovery scoring | Yes | Yes |
| Nutrition logging + food AI | Yes | No |
| Adaptive strength programming | Yes | No |
| 3D body composition | Yes | No |
Questions
Can Heala replace my WHOOP?
Not for measurement. It can replace the app you use to decide what to do about the measurements — and it adds food, training and body composition, which the strap does not cover.
Does WHOOP data sync into Heala?
Anything WHOOP writes to Apple Health or Health Connect is read by Heala.
Do I need a wearable for a recovery score?
No. Sleep you log, load from your sessions and your phone’s activity produce one. A wearable makes it sharper, especially overnight.
The quiz is free, takes about four minutes and needs no card. It ends with your calorie target, your macros and a training week you can look at.
