Heala vs MyFitnessPal
MyFitnessPal is the default food logger and it earned that. This page is about what it does not do — and what that costs you in other subscriptions.
- Nutrition logging
- The largest food database
- Barcode scanning
- Nutrition logging
- Training and cardio
- Sleep and recovery
- Body composition
- Cycle, habits, meds
The short version
MyFitnessPal is a nutrition app. Heala is a nutrition app that also holds your training, cardio, sleep, recovery, body composition, cycle, habits and medication, and reads all of it with one coach.
They cost the same for a year on the US App Store: both $79.99, checked in August 2026. The difference is not the price. It is how many other subscriptions you still need afterwards.
What MyFitnessPal does better
The food database. MyFitnessPal has had two decades of user submissions and it is the largest in consumer nutrition — if you eat something obscure, it is more likely to be in there.
Recognition of packaged food and restaurant menus, for the same reason: a database gets better the more people use it.
If all you want is to count calories and nothing else, MyFitnessPal is a complete answer and you do not need this page.
What Heala adds
One sentence logs anything. "Slept about six hours, squats 5×5 at 100 kg, and chicken and rice for lunch" writes three separate entries across three domains — sleep, a workout and a meal. Typed or spoken.
The coach has 41 actions it can take across eight domains, so it is an input layer for the whole app rather than a chat window bolted onto a food diary.
A 3D body twin from four photos, with ten circumference estimates, that you can rotate and compare against last month.
Training that adapts, cardio with GPS, sleep and recovery, habits, medication and cycle — in the same subscription.

Who should switch
Switch if you are already paying for a second or third app — a workout app, a running app, a recovery app — and would rather have one bill and one place where those numbers meet.
Do not switch if you only track food, you are happy, and the database is why. You would be paying the same money for features you will not open.
Questions
Can I import my MyFitnessPal history?
Not yet. Heala starts fresh, which matters most if you rely on years of history. Weight and body measurements can be entered by hand, and Apple Health or Health Connect carries across anything already written there.
Is Heala cheaper than MyFitnessPal?
They are the same annual price on the US App Store as of August 2026 — $79.99 each. Heala is cheaper only in the sense that it replaces apps you may be paying for separately.
Does Heala have a free plan?
Yes. Food logging, the exercise library, cardio, sleep, strain, habits and weight are free and uncapped. The AI gets a weekly allowance on Free, and charts look back fourteen days.
The quiz is free, takes about four minutes and needs no card. It ends with your calorie target, your macros and a training week you can look at.
