Heala vs ChatGPT as a coach
A general assistant is genuinely good at explaining training and writing a plan on request. This page is about the three things it structurally cannot do.
- Explains anything you ask
- Writes a plan on request
- Starts fresh each time
- Cannot log or measure
- Reads your logged history
- Writes to your account
- Notices a stall
- Adjusts the plan itself
What a general assistant is genuinely good at
Explaining concepts. Ask what progressive overload is, or whether creatine needs loading, and you will get a good answer.
Producing a plausible starting programme from a description of your situation.
It is free or cheap, and for a lot of people it is a better first coach than nothing at all.
The three things it cannot do
It does not hold your data. It does not know what you squatted on Tuesday, what you have eaten today, or that you have slept badly for a week — unless you type all of it again, every time.
It cannot write anything down. A plan in a chat window is a plan you have to transcribe somewhere, and the transcription is where it dies.
It cannot notice. Nobody asks the question "have I stalled" at the moment it becomes relevant, which is exactly why a coach that reads your history unprompted is worth more than one that answers well when asked.
What Heala does with the same model
The coach reads the account it writes to. It has your last three weeks of lifting, your sleep, your intake and your body measurements, and it has 41 actions it can take against them.
"What should I do today" is a different question when the asker already knows the answer to "what did you do this week".
Questions
Can ChatGPT be my personal trainer?
It can explain training well and draft a programme. It cannot log your sessions, track progression across months, or notice changes you did not ask about.
Is Heala just ChatGPT in an app?
The coach is an AI, and the difference is what it is connected to: your own logged history, and the ability to write to it rather than only answer.
Do I still need to log things?
Yes, and that is the point — logging is what gives any coach, human or otherwise, something to work from. Heala makes it a sentence.
The quiz is free, takes about four minutes and needs no card. It ends with your calorie target, your macros and a training week you can look at.
