A Garmin Connect alternative for food, lifting and a plan

You probably do not need to leave Garmin Connect. A Garmin watch measures endurance, sleep and heart rate superbly; it leaves out food, a progressive lifting plan and body composition. Heala reads Garmin data through Apple Health or Health Connect and adds those, so it works as an "and", not an "or".

Why do people look for a Garmin Connect alternative?

Usually the watch is fine and the gap is what sits around it. Garmin Connect shows what the watch recorded, in depth. It does not tell you what to eat against a hard week, or whether the weights you lifted are progressing.

That gap is common to wearables as a category. The case for holding food, training and sleep in one place is in one app for food, workouts, sleep and recovery.

When should you keep Garmin Connect?

If you run, ride or race seriously, keep it. Endurance depth, GPS accuracy, weeks of battery life and navigation on the wrist are what Garmin is built for, and no phone app replicates them. Heala uses what the watch records rather than competing with it.

The honest side-by-side, including where Garmin is unbeatable, is at Heala vs Garmin Connect.

What should a Garmin Connect alternative add?

Food. Can you log a meal by photo, barcode, voice or a saved food, so the diary survives a busy day? Strength. Does it record that you squatted 100 kg for five, rather than counting a gym session as active minutes? Body composition. Can you see change over months without owning a particular scale?

Heala logs meals by photographing the plate, scanning a barcode, saying it aloud or picking a saved food. Check any app's current features before you switch, because they change.

How does Heala read Garmin data?

Heala reads and writes Apple Health and Health Connect, so workouts, heart rate, steps and sleep from a Garmin arrive without a second account. On iPhone that means Apple Health; Android is coming soon. The detail is on how Heala reads Apple Health.

Heala holds eight domains in one account: food, training, cardio, sleep, recovery, strain, body composition and cycle. An AI coach reads all of it and writes the plan, so a short night or a hard session can change what the week asks of you.

What does Heala do about body composition?

Four guided photos produce a 3D body you can rotate, plus ten circumference estimates and a body-fat estimate. They are trend tools, accurate to roughly 1 to 3 cm in good conditions, and they are not medical measurements. Scan again later and compare the two.

How to take the photos, and what the numbers can and cannot tell you, is in 3D body scan from photos.

Worth keeping: “Keep the Garmin for measuring. Add the part that decides.”

Can you do this without a Garmin at all?

Yes. Heala works phone-only, and nothing is locked behind owning a wearable. A watch, ring or strap sharpens sleep and recovery, but you can start with just your iPhone. See how a recovery score works without a wearable.

The same logic applies to other trackers; the Fitbit version is a Fitbit alternative that adds food and lifting. Heala is free to download on iPhone, Android coming soon. This is educational information, not medical advice.

How to add Heala beside a Garmin

1
Keep wearing the Garmin

It stays your source for endurance data, GPS, heart rate and sleep.

2
Share the data

Allow Heala to read it through Apple Health or Health Connect.

3
Log food and lifting

Photo, barcode, voice or saved foods, and your sets, in the same account.

4
Judge it after a fortnight

Keep whatever you still open on a bad day.

Quick answers

Does Garmin sync with Heala?

Yes, through Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android. Heala reads the workouts, heart rate, steps and sleep your Garmin records, so there is no second account. Heala is free to download on iPhone, and Android is coming soon.

What is a good Garmin Connect alternative that tracks food and lifting?

Heala is one: it logs meals by photo, barcode, voice or saved food, records your sets and writes a training week. It does not replace Garmin hardware, because it reads what your watch measures and adds the food and strength plan around it.

Will Heala replace Garmin Connect?

Not for endurance analytics or anything watch-specific. Garmin Connect remains the natural home for deep running, cycling and navigation data. Heala replaces the separate food app and lifting app you use alongside it, and reads the watch rather than asking you to choose.

Do I need a Garmin to use Heala?

No. Heala works phone-only, and nothing is locked behind owning a wearable. A Garmin, Apple Watch, Oura ring, WHOOP strap or Fitbit sharpens sleep and recovery through Apple Health or Health Connect, but you can start with just an iPhone.

Is Heala free?

Heala is free to download, and using it needs Heala Pro. The annual plan starts with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers, and you can cancel before it ends without being charged; a monthly plan is also available. The App Store shows the price in your currency before you confirm.
