Use WHOOP with Apple Health and Heala: how it works

Yes, an app can work with both WHOOP and Apple Health. Switch on WHOOP’s Apple Health sharing, and Heala reads what the strap writes there: sleep, heart rate and workouts. Heala then adds the food, training and cardio you log to build its own recovery score.

How does WHOOP data reach Heala?

It travels through Apple Health, not through a direct WHOOP login. WHOOP can write your data to Apple Health, and Heala reads and writes Apple Health, so one permission on each side is the whole setup. Anything the strap writes to Apple Health or Health Connect, such as sleep, heart rate and workouts, arrives in Heala.

There is no second account, no export file and nothing to re-enter. Open WHOOP’s settings to enable the Apple Health connection, then allow Heala to read Health when it asks. Read the Apple Health sync page for what Heala reads and writes.

What arrives in Heala, and what stays in WHOOP?

The raw signals arrive; WHOOP’s own scoring does not need to. Sleep, heart rate and workouts flow in, and Heala builds its own morning recovery score from them alongside everything you log in the app. The two scores are separate numbers from separate models, so expect them to agree on the big days and differ on the small ones.

WHOOP’s own app, membership and strap carry on exactly as before. Heala does not replace them. It reads the data and puts it beside the meals, lifting sessions and runs that WHOOP does not hold. The head-to-head is in Heala vs WHOOP.

Why add Heala if WHOOP already scores recovery?

Because a score tells you that you are tired, not why. Heala holds the food, sets, runs and sleep that produced the number, so a low morning sits next to the late meal, the hard leg session or the short night. The coach reads all of it, and a poor night adjusts the day’s training plan.

Of Heala’s fourteen recovery signals, exactly four need a sensor: overnight HRV, resting heart rate, wrist temperature and respiratory rate. A strap helps with those four, and Heala supplies the other ten itself. The full list is in your recovery score, decoded signal by signal.

Worth keeping: “A score tells you that you are tired. The log tells you why.”

What if you do not own a WHOOP?

Nothing is locked behind owning one. Heala works on the phone alone, and an Apple Watch, Oura ring, WHOOP strap, Garmin or Fitbit only sharpens sleep and recovery through Apple Health or Health Connect. The route without any hardware is covered in how to get a recovery score without a wearable.

Heala is free to download on iPhone, Android coming soon. This is general information, not medical advice.

Connect WHOOP to Heala in four steps

1
Turn on WHOOP’s Apple Health link

In the WHOOP app’s settings, enable the Apple Health connection and allow it to write sleep, heart rate and workouts.

2
Install Heala

Heala is free to download on iPhone. Android is coming soon.

3
Allow Heala to read Apple Health

Say yes when Heala asks, and the strap’s data starts arriving with no second setup.

4
Log food and training as usual

Meals, sets and runs sit beside the sleep and heart rate, so a low morning comes with a likely reason.

Quick answers

Does Heala work with WHOOP?

Yes, through Apple Health. WHOOP writes sleep, heart rate and workouts to Apple Health or Health Connect, and Heala reads them there. There is no separate WHOOP login. Heala then builds its own recovery score from that data and what you log.

Can I use WHOOP and Apple Health together?

Yes. WHOOP has an Apple Health connection you switch on in its settings, after which it writes your data there. Any app that reads Apple Health, Heala included, can then use it. Heala is free to download on iPhone, Android coming soon.

Will Heala replace my WHOOP subscription?

Not by itself. Heala is software that reads a strap, not a replacement for its sensor. If you want a recovery score with no hardware, Heala can produce one from phone data and your logs, with thinner evidence on the four sensor-based signals.

Does Heala copy my WHOOP recovery score?

No. Heala reads the underlying data and builds its own morning recovery score from up to fourteen signals, including food, training and a check-in. It is a separate model, so the two numbers will often be close but will not match exactly.

Do I need a WHOOP to use Heala?

No. Heala works on the phone alone. An Apple Watch, Oura ring, WHOOP, Garmin or Fitbit sharpens sleep and recovery through Apple Health or Health Connect, but nothing in the app is locked behind owning one.
