Heala vs Oura: the ring and the whole picture
Oura is one of the best sleep trackers you can wear, and it measures the night with real rigor. It doesn't know your training block, your lifts or your calorie target. Heala reads the ring's numbers through Apple Health and completes the picture.
What the ring knows
Oura is superb sleep hardware. Start there, because it is the honest headline. The ring lasts days on a charge, disappears on your finger, and measures the night with real care: sleep stages, overnight HRV, resting heart rate, skin-temperature trends. Its morning readiness score is a genuinely useful summary of how you slept. If your main question is what happened last night, a ring answers it better than a phone on the nightstand ever will.
What no ring can see
Readiness is a verdict built from inputs, and a ring can only weigh what it can measure. Oura reads your night, your pulse and your movement — and heart rate and motion are where its view of training ends. It cannot know what was on the bar, which muscles a session emptied, or that this week is a deload your plan scheduled on purpose. No ring reads your plate: fuelling is not something a sensor can measure. Two identical nights of sleep can mean two different mornings. Telling them apart takes context the ring was never designed to hold.
Same numbers, more context
Heala reads Apple Health and Health Connect, and Oura can share its data with both. So the ring's sleep and heart numbers flow into Heala and land next to the rest of your day: meals logged by photo, voice or barcode, your training plan, and an all-day strain score. Heala's morning recovery score is built from four inputs — sleep, HRV, resting heart rate and strain. With an Oura on your finger, the first three get sharper. The fourth is built from what you do and log all day, on Heala's side.
The AI coach works on that combined record — 41 actions on your real data, from adjusting a training day to logging a meal. A coach that sees only your sleep can tell you to rest. One that also sees your food, your strain and your plan can tell you why — and adjust tomorrow to match.
Wear the ring, keep the picture
This is not a rip-and-replace decision. If you own an Oura and like it, keep wearing it — Heala gets better data because of it. What a comparison cannot settle: whether you want hardware on your finger at all, how deep you are in one ecosystem, and taste. What it can settle: a ring is a superb night-time instrument, and an instrument is not a picture. How to choose
Keep it. Turn on Apple Health or Health Connect sharing and its sleep and heart data flow into Heala automatically.
The ring alone may be enough. Oura's night-time measurement is its strongest suit.
You need somewhere the night meets the day. Heala scores recovery against strain, meals and your plan.
Heala's recovery score works without one. Start free, add a ring later if you want deeper sleep data.
Quick answers
Can I use Oura and Heala together?
Yes — that is the intended pairing. Oura can share its data with Apple Health on iPhone and Health Connect on Android, and Heala reads both. The ring's sleep and heart metrics land in Heala automatically and feed the recovery score. You keep the Oura app; nothing about the ring changes.
Does my existing Oura data move over?
Heala reads whatever Oura has written to Apple Health or Health Connect on your phone — going forward, plus any history already synced there. Data that lives only inside Oura's own app and was never shared to the platform stays where it is. No exports, no cables: grant the permission and it flows.
Do I need any wearable to use Heala?
No. Heala's morning recovery score works without a watch or ring, using the sleep, resting heart rate and strain signals it can gather from your phone and your logs. A wearable sharpens the sleep and HRV inputs — an Oura sharpens them a lot — but it is an upgrade, not a requirement.
